Eric Rivera

Associate Vice President for Student Affairs


 

 

 

 

 

Eric Rivera has over eighteen years of professional experience in higher education, with progressively responsible senior level experience in Student Affairs. Prior to his appointment as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at San Diego State University in April 2006, he served for more than five years as the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. He has worked strategically across campus to help chart a course for student success at SDSU. He has also strategically worked with the university to develop the Aztec Parents Program. Mr. Rivera has been successful in working with University Relations and Development to invest in the creation of a Student Affairs development infrastructure in support of raising philanthropic dollars for the Division of Student Affairs.

Prior to his affiliation with San Diego State University, Mr. Rivera worked at California State University, Los Angeles, the State University of New York-Oswego, and Monroe College, Bronx, New York.

Mr. Rivera's professional affiliations include NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators), CASE (Council for the Advancement & Support of Education), and HACU (Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities). He currently serves on NASPA's Minority Urban Fellows Program Advisory Board and NASPA's Latino Knowledge Community Advisory Board.

In addition to his professional associations, Mr. Rivera is very active in the community. He is currently a member of the San Diego Community College Trustee's Advisory Board and the City of San Diego Otay Mesa Planning Group. Mr. Rivera was appointed by the Mayor and City Council to the San Diego Convention Center Corporation Board of Directors from 2002 through 2006; and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Education Committee during 2003-2004.

Mr. Rivera was honored with an SDSU Presidential Top 25 Award in September 2007.
He was also the recipient of the NASPA Latino Knowledge Community's Outstanding Senior Student Affairs Officer Award in March 2007.

As the Associate Vice President in the division, Mr. Rivera oversees the following areas: Career Services, Communications Services, Information Systems Management, New Student & Parent Programs, Office of the Ombudsmen, Residential Education, Student Testing, Assessment & Research, and Student Affairs Development. Mr. Rivera recently completed the Harvard Management & Leadership in Education Program. In addition, he possesses a master's degree in public administration from the City University of New York, Baruch College.
