SDSU MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENTAL PLACEMENT EXAMINATION
Test Requirements
Students (First-Year and Transfer Students) wishing to enroll in certain mathematically-related courses must pass the appropriate Mathematics Departmental Placement Examination: The Intermediate Algebra Proficiency Assessment, the Liberal Studies Mathematics Proficiency Assessment, and the Precalculus Proficiency Assessment. Completion of courses or placement exams at other colleges or universities do not provide an exemption from the various prerequisite requirements at SDSU, unless otherwise stated in the General Catalogue.

1. Intermediate Algebra Proficiency Assessment
(This exam covers intermediate algebra.)
Computer Science 108 (Intermediate Computer Programming)
Mathematics 121 (Calculus of Life Science I)
Mathematics 122 (Calculus for Life Sciences II)
Physics 180A (Fundamentals of Physics)
2. Liberal Studies Mathematics Proficiency Assessment
(This exam covers numbers and operations, geometry and measurements)
Mathematics 311 (Statistics and Probability in Elementary Mathematics)
Mathematics 313 (Selected Topics in Elementary Mathematics)
3. Precalculus Proficiency Assessment
(This exam covers college algebra
and trigonometry.)
Mathematics 150 (Calculus I)

To register in person, please come to the SDSU Testing, Assessment & Research Office (SSW-2549) during business hours (M-F 8:00 am - 4:30pm) and purchase a ticket. The fee is $20.00 for each exam. Tickets purchased August 20, 2007 or later are non-refundable.
