Student Testing, Assessment and Research

(STAAR)

 

The Office of Student Testing, Assessment and Research (STAAR) supports the Division of Student Affairs and San Diego State University's mission and strategic planning efforts. STAAR serves as an important resource for the entire university community by:

  1. Providing testing services for the purposes of admission, class placement,competency for graduation, licenses, and credentials.

  2. Striving to improve student services and development programs and to expand the knowledge bases about student learning and development through comprehensive data collection, research and assessment activities, sound policy analysis, effective program evaluation, consultation and collaboration with campus and public stakeholders, and broad dissemination of research findings and other relevant information.

The STAAR office is committed to student learning and retention and is motivated by its belief that all students are entitled to access, equity, and success in higher education.

Student Testing, Assessment and Research operates under the auspices of the Office of the Dean of Students (DOS) for the SDSU Student Affairs. Other administrative units under DOS include Career Services Center, Center for Community Based Service Learning, Cross-Cultural Center, Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life, Leadership Programs, and Student Organizations and Activities . In addition, the DOS area works in collaboration with Associated Students.
