Parent Orientation

Parent involvement plays a key role in the academic success of students during their college years. For this reason, SDSU sponsors a Parent Orientation Program that runs concurrently with the student program. After check-in, students and parents will separate into their respective orientation programs.

Research shows that students who bring parents/guests to orientation are more likely to earn a higher grade point average and persist in school.

Here’s why Parents must attend:

• To contribute to the personal development and academic success of your student
• To meet faculty, staff, and students and learn about academic programs and student support services
• To become a member of the Aztec Parents Association
• To learn what it means to be a member of the SDSU community
• To learn how campus works (policies and procedures)

Ninety-eight percent of parents who completed a program evaluation recommended attending Parent Orientation to future Aztec parents. Regardless if you have had another son or daughter in college and/or if you are a local parent, it is important to attend Parent Orientation to learn about SDSU’s programs and services, and how your student can successfully graduate in a timely fashion.

*Guests under 15 years of age are not encouraged to attend. All guests are required to attend the Parent Orientation program.
