Transfer Orientation (August 2012)
All transfer students are expected to attend New Student Orientation
Here’s why you must attend:
- Register for classes at orientation*
- Understand General Education, major, testing, and graduation requirements
- Receive essential academic planning and course registration assistance
- Learn how to use SDSU’s Web registration system
- Meet in groups by major with Assistant Dean, faculty advisor, and trained student Ambassadors
- Ease your transition to SDSU
- Learn what it means to be a responsible member of the SDSU community
Transfer students who attend New Student Orientation will:
- Register for classes at orientation*
- Receive a preliminary degree evaluation showing how your classes will transfer to SDSU
Orientation also includes:
- New Student and Family Convocation

A ceremony to officially welcome all new students and their families to the SDSU community. All new students are expected to attend and are encouraged to bring their families and guests with them.
- Welcome Week (for students only)

A series of programs and activities to welcome you to campus life
Orientation focuses on academic planning and prepares you to register for classes.

*In order to register for classes, you MUST complete the following steps:
- Pay your course registration fees two weeks prior to attending orientation in order to have your fees processed on time. If you pay online, your fees will be processed by the next business day. You MUST pay your fees on time or you will not be able to register for classes at orientation.
- You MUST clear any holds indicated on the "My Registration" page located in your SDSU WebPortal. It can take up to 48 hours to clear some holds. Please plan accordingly or you will not be able to register for classes at orientation.
