As everyone reading this knows, being an Ambassador has many benefits. In the case of Robyn (Rubenstein) and Kris Adams, their connection to the Ambassadors eventually led to their connection as husband and wife.
Robyn and Kris didn't know each other during their college years - they were a few years apart. But both were very active Ambassadors during their time at SDSU. They actually met at an Ambo alumni function.
"Kris and I passed each other several times without meeting," said Robyn. "We were at a barbecue in Mike Minjares' backyard, and then at the PETCO Aztecs first game. It wasn't until a House of Blues Ambassador event that we connected - and that was at the end of the night. I gave him my business card (I work at SDSU) and invited him back to campus for a tour. Great pick-up line!
Kris concurs.
"Yeah, it was a great pick-up line! Obviously it worked. I e-mailed her but then misplaced Robyn's card with her phone number. It wasn't until I received a text message on Thanksgiving eve that I finally got her phone number again," said Kris. "I called, we talked, and I got my tour. Then in December of 2005, Robyn asked me out on our first date. My tour guide is now my wife."
Robyn and Kris married this past August. Searching for a fun and entertaining venue for their special day, they decided to hold their wedding at Disneyland.
"I worked for Disney for three years after college and thought it would be a great destination wedding site," said Robyn. "After the wedding, we all went on the rides until midnight. Disney gave us "Just Married" buttons and the staff in the park did special things for us. Mickey and Minnie were in attendance dressed in their wedding attire."
Kris said the best part was for him was Robyn.
"The highlight was seeing my beautiful bride! She looked fantastic," said Kris. "The flowers were gorgeous, the cake was awesome, and the service was outstanding. My aunt married us, which was something very special. What better place to have a fairy tail wedding than at Disneyland!"
Both Robyn and Kris said they became involved as Ambassadors because they wanted to work with incoming students and improve things for new students.
"Now we're both active alumni, going to football games and other campus sponsored events," said Kris. "The Ambo alumni chapter, OASSIS, was instrumental in introducing us to one another. We enjoy the annual barbecue and gatherings for old friends."
Robyn is currently working on her Ph.D. and both have busy careers, but they enjoy what little spare time they have together. They like to attend auto and moto events, cruising, spending time with family members, and watching movies.
They'd like to see more Ambo alums become involved with OASSIS.
"We would like to see even more social activities with Ambassador alums," said Robyn. "A cruise would be terrific."
