Student Affairs Division Update
The Division of Student Affairs has a new organization chart and welcomed some new key players recently.
- At the beginning of the fall semester, Timothy Quinnan joined the division as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Campus Life. Quinnan will oversee the Assistant Deans for Student Affairs in each college; the Associated Students; Fraternity and Sorority Life; Intercultural Relations/Cross Cultural Center; the Office of the Ombudsmen; Student Activities and Campus Life; and Student Rights and Responsibilities. - Martha “Marti” Ruel also joined Student Affairs at the beginning of the fall semester as the Interim Associate Vice President, occupying the role formerly held by Bill Boyd, who retired this year. Ruel oversees the College Access Program; Counseling & Psychological Services; EOP/Ethnic Affairs; the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships; the International Student Center; Student Disability Services; and Student Health Services.
- Jane Kalioznes is currently serving as the Interim Director of the International Student Center, following the tragic passing of Ron Moffatt last April.
- Tony Chung came on board in the summer as the new director of Information Systems Management.
- The College Access Programs is a new venture that serves as an early outreach college-preparation program targeted to low-income, first generation eighth-grade students in the San Diego Unified School District. By spring 2008, the initial program design was completed and staff began sessions at the four partner middle schools and a test partner K-6 school. SDSU staff travel to each school at least once weekly to teach one session of a comprehensive curriculum that includes information on the value of higher education, career planning, high school coursework required for CSU or UC admission, the college application and admissions process, and financial aid and scholarships. Josephine Mojica, Cynthia Torres, and Trimaine Davis staff the College Access Programs
- After D. Graham left SDSU for Princeton University this year, Marit Bessesen was appointed as the newest Ombudsperson for the division. Bessesen most recently worked in Residential Education where she served as a Residence Hall Coordinator.
- Rosa Moreno temporarily took a leave as Vice President Kitchen’s Special Assistant to oversee the office of Student Activities and Campus Life. She should be returning to her Special Assistant position early in the new year.
