Student Affairs: More Automated Than Ever

This past year, Information Systems Management (ISM) helped to increase computer automation for many programs in the division.

• ISM collaborated with the office of New Student & Parent Programs to develop software which new students will use to sign up for orientation. Partnering with Academic Affairs’ staff, the function will become part of a campus portal, and will present a one-stop environment where students conduct all campus business.
• ISM also partnered with the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities to develop a custom judicial database at a considerable cost savings, compared to those existing at other universities. Further, the software permits computer-generated letters, saving many hours streamlining, tracking and expediting judicial case management for faster service to students.

This past year, Student Health Services converted its paper medical records to electronic format, also known as an electronic health record (EHR). Building the foundation for adopting an EHR was several years in the making, and the SHS staff saw those efforts come to fruition in April 2008 when they began documenting office visits electronically. Only a few functions remain to be integrated so that SHS has a completely paperless medical record. SHS is now on the brink of being the only campus in the CSU—and among only 4 percent of medical facilities nationwide—to use a fully functioning EHR.
