The Newsletter for SDSU Student Affairs

As Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. James R. Kitchen spoke with pride of the new facility, which houses three Student Affairs departments Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the renamed Student Disability Services.
Associated Students President Matt Keipper spoke of the role students had in bringing about this new facility. Funds for the Calpulli Center were made possible by a student referendum in which they voted to increase the annual health fee for a better facility.
President Stephen L. Weber, who provided the keynote welcome, echoed and applauded Keipper’s comments.
“I want to thank the students who made this facility possible,” said Weber. “Look around at this campus and the recent physical changes. It is the students who are responsible for so much of it from Cox Arena, to the Aztec Recreation Center, to the soon-to-open Aztec Aquaplex.
Weber noted that the new state-of-the-art building doesn’t house academics per se, but it is valuable in every student’s development while at SDSU.
“I always say that learning happens everywhere, not just in the classroom,” he said. “This building is a prime example of that. It truly is a learning center, where students learn, probably for the first time in their lives, to take responsibility for their health.”
The state-of-the-art Calpulli Center will allow SHS, C&PS and SDS to expand their services to more of SDSU’s growing student body.
