There are few countries in the world as interesting a locale for international study than Israel. Situated in the heart of the Middle East, Israel sometimes appears to be at the center of the world. Its historic rebirth in an ancient land and its ability to survive and prosper amidst its surroundings continue to fascinate people everywhere. The front pages of the world's newspapers feature the latest news from the area, whether it be political, religious, archeological or scientific. For the student, Israel is a living laboratory where academic subjects take on real-life actuality: the clash between tradition and modern values, the conflict between secularism and religion, the politics of nationalism, Middle East business and economic development, and the quest for environmental quality during a period of rapid development.

Students may enroll in either the Hebrew University of Jerusalem or the University of Tel Aviv. The two-semester program is preceded by a language program (Ulpan), after which students take coursework in a curriculum primarily made up of Jewish studies, Israeli studies, Middle East and Islamic studies in Hebrew University's One-Year Program or Tel Aviv's Overseas Study Program.
