PROFILE : Aoyama Gakuin University currently has an international student enrollment of about 80 students, whom the staff of the IEC assists in dealing with matters such as scholarships, immigration, housing, and adjustment to life in Japan. They also hold social events and assist AGU students who are studying abroad or who intend to do so.
LOCALE : Aoyama is located at Shibuya, which is the center of Tokyo and center of young people. Therefore the student can learn so many Japanese cultures just by walking around University. Also Aoyama is near by "Omotesando" an area blending antique and modern Japanese culture.

ACADEMIC NOTES : Studying at Aoyama Gakuin University is a great opportunity to learn and improve Japanese skills. Taking classes with regular students of the school creates a great environment to make friends quickly and practice conversational Japanese. The only classes specifically for exchange students are Japanese Language/ culture courses. The amount of Japanese a student is exposed to at first may seem overwhelming, but it encourages a faster pace of learning. Most classes offered are in Japanese, but there are some in English
ROOM AND BOARD: The following two dormitories are available for international students: Jousei Dormitory: Shibuya, Tokyo (10 minute walk from Aoyama Campus), Jousei Dormitory is located in Shibuya-ku, an educational district in the center of Tokyo. Travel time from the dormitory to the Atsugi Campus is about one hour and forty minutes, but the Aoyama Campus is only three minutes away on foot. Schoonmaker Dormitory: Setagaya, Tokyo (30 minute by train from Aoyama Campus), The dormitory is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, far from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. The bus stop near the dormitory provides a convenient link to the railway station.
EXCHANGE DATES: In principle, the period of study at AGU shall be one year beginning from April. However, exchange students may be permitted to study at AGU for only the first semester (from April to July) or second semester (from September to January) through arrangement with their university. PROFILE: Gifu University tries to foster students with international knowledge, to establish ties of international friendship with people and organizations in foreign countries, and to exchange academic information for the progress of culture and science in the world. The university has cooperated with many foreign universities and made agreements for academic exchange with suitable universities in order to promote the exchange of students, faculty, and research information. Gifu University has 23 sister universities in 12 countries.
LOCALE : Gifu University is located in Gifu City, which in turn is located in the middle of Japan, 400km (248 miles) from Tokyo, and 140km (87 miles) from Osaka. Geographically, Gifu City is located on the Nagara River and at the northern end of Nobi Plain, through which three rivers run: the Kiso, the Nagara, and the Ibi.

ACADEMIC NOTES: Currently Gifu University is the only national university in Japan to offer a degree program in Regional Studies. Gifu University offers other activities for international exchange through donations from private enterprises. The International Student Center aims to promote international exchange by providing a place of education, the learning necessary in living a successful life, and guidance and advice to foreign students as well as to the students of Gifu University seeking to study abroad. The center's main functions are: to provide preparatory Japanese language lessons to foreign exchange students under Government scholarship grants before their enrollment into the graduate school; to teach foreign students the Japanese language studies, and give them guidance, advice, and consultation in relation to enrollment and to troubles in everyday living; to serve as a liaison between Gifu University and the foreign universities with which the former has an academic exchange agreement; and to develop plans and administer the acceptance of foreign students or otherwise the dispatch to foreign schools of Japanese students seeking enrollment for summer or short-term sessions.

Gunma University Website International Exchange
PROFILE: The University has three main campuses: Aramaki Campus (about 260,000) and Showa Campus (about 160,000) in Maebashi City, and Kiryu Campus (about 120.000) in Kiryu City.
LOCALE: Kiryu city is located in Gunma prefecture, which forms the northern part of the Kanto Plain on the main island of Honshu. Kiryu is approximately 100 km from Tokyo, the capital of Japan. The mountains that can be seen to the North of Kiryu include the distinctive shape of Mount Akagi. Gunma prefecture is famous for its mountains and hot springs.
DIVISIONS: At Aramaki Campus there are Faculty of Education, Faculty of Social and Information Studies, University Library, Administration Office, University Health Care Center and Center for International Studies. At Showa Campus there are Faculty of Medicine, University Hospital, Institute for Molecular and Cellular Regulation and Gene Research Center. The Kiryu Campus has the Faculty of Engineering, Center for Cooperative Research, Technical Research Center for Instrumental Analysis. International House, Computer Center, Satellite Venture Business Laboratory, and the Facility for Treatment of Laboratory Waste are located at.
The University has graduate schools and offers postgraduate courses in several fields: a master's program in the Graduate School of Education, a master's program in the Graduate School of Social and Information Studies, a doctor's program in the Graduate School of Medicine, master's and doctor's programs in the Graduate School of Engineering, and the Special Graduate Course of Special Education.
ACADEMIC NOTES: The center for International Studies was established in April 1999 as a campus wide educational research facility in Aramaki Campus. The center's main objectives are to contribute to and to promote the University's international activities by offering Japanese Language and Japanese Studies courses for international students, to provide international students with guidance and counseling in their studies and daily life, as well as conduct relevant research. The center offers University-wide Japanese Language Training Courses as extra-curricular classes to all international students, from beginner to advanced levels, based on major.
ROOM AND BOARD: There are 2 university-managed student houses in Kiryu. Keishin Ryo is a student house for male students (maximum number of students is 102). It is primarily intended as accommodation for Japanese students, but approximately 10% of the students living in the house are exchange students. Each student has their own room, which is equipped with a bed, desk and locker. All residents of the house share facilities such as kitchens, washrooms and the laundry room. Kokusai Koryu Kaikan (International House) is a student house exclusively for the use of exchange students and foreign research fellows (both male and female). International House can house a maximum of 40 students. Of this number, 4 rooms are reserved for the use of research fellows. Each student room is a self-contained unit with necessities such as bed, desk, refrigerator, washbasin and toilet provided. The majority of students (including Japanese students) live in privately rented accommodation.

Osaka International University
International Exchange
PROFILE: In 2002 Osaka International University for Women and Osaka International University merged. OIU is proud of its international focus, using the motto that “Global Mind is the spirit of OIU.” The School of Japanese Studies for Foreign Students provides programs for foreign students who wish to study Japanese language and culture. OIU has exchange agreements with universities in Asia, North America, Australia and New Zealand.
LOCALE: *The Hirakata campus is located in Hirakata City, Osaka, a quiet suburban setting 20 km from both downtown Osaka and Kyoto and linked by public transportation to both. Although within sight of the modern skyscrapers of Osaka, the quiet atmosphere of OIU makes it conducive to study. The campus buildings are located on a hill within the Kansai Culture and Science Research District east of Osaka which befits OIU's mission of pursuing the frontiers of globalization and information technologies. The Hirakata campus is located on 60,000 square meters of open space, greenery, and modern facilities. The brand-new campus buildings house a computer center, a library, a research institute, a bookstore, a student activities center, a gymnasium, an athletic field, tennis courts, lecture halls, classrooms and a Seminar House.
The Moriguchi Campus is located in Moriguchi, a commuter city located in roughly the center of Osaka Prefecture. It is perfectly situated for a convenient commute from the exciting hub of information that is the City of Osaka. The campus itself is surrounded by lush greenery that provides a fresh feeling of rebirth in the air during the spring and summer months as well as an atmosphere of calm reflection in the fall. There are 7 halls on campus, some symbolizing the University's long history and some brand new facilities equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art Information Technology. Moreover, providing for a complete student life is a restaurant, a cafe, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, an athletic field, and the Okuda Memorial Hall that can seat 750 persons. The area around the campus is also peppered with a wealth of apartment buildings providing homes for students from all over Japan as well as from many foreign countries whose lives are centered on enjoying their university experience.

Oita University
Profile: Oita University, a corporative national university, was newly founded in October 2003 by the merger of the former Oita University and Oita Medical University. The University now consists of four faculties and five graduate schools. There is currently close to 6,000 students including 167 international students from over 25 countries attending the university.
Locale: Dannoharu campus is located in a suburb of Oita city, surrounded by beautiful mountains near the sea. Although it is located only 15 minutes from downtown Oita by train, the university campus is situated in a quiet residential area and is ideal for study. Campus events include university festivals, athletic meetings, a long-distance relay road race, and so on. There are 24 (Dannoharu Campus) and 12 (Hasama Campus) humanities clubs such as tea ceremony, theatrical performance, calligraphy, ceramic, etc. There are 31 (Dannoharu) and 18 (Hasama) athletic clubs such as soccer, basketball, judo, swimming, sailing, etc. Field trips and cultural exchange activities with local people are also provided for international students.

PROFILE: Osaka University of Arts is a general art university leading all the fields of art in Japan. We encourage creative talents by opening up new academic fields such as Art Planning and Environmental Design.
LOCALE: Osaka University of Arts is located in the southern part of Osaka. Our campus is surrounded by the beauty of green and you can feel the changing of seasons by colors of leaves.
DIVISIONS: There are thirteen Departments: Fine Arts, Design, Crafts, Architecture, Environmental Design, Photography, Visual Concept Planning, Literary Arts, Broadcasting, Art Planning, Theatrical Arts, Musicology, Music Performance.
ACADEMIC NOTES : Osaka University of Arts is the only university in Japan which joins in the AICAD (Association of Independent College of Art and Design) in the US. So, the exchange with American schools is getting more active and many of our students have had the opportunity to study abroad with this exchange program. We have also established good relations with universities in Italy, Austria, Korea and China, so the possibility for our students to study abroad is getting larger.

Seinan Gakuin University
PROFILE: The rich international flavor at Seinan Gakuin University is seen in the fact that currently 13% of the full-time university faculty members are non-Japanese. There are international exchange programs for students and faculty members with thirteen universities and colleges in the U.S., France, England, Canada and China. These linkages enrich the cosmopolitan atmosphere on campus and encourage students to become familiar with the global community in which they will live in the 21st century.
LOCALE: Located in Fukuoka, the principal city of southwestern Japan, on the northern shores of Kyushu and surrounded by picturesque mountains and blue seas, Seinan Gakuin is a school highly regarded by the intellectual community of Fukuoka, an academic center ranking next to Tokyo and Osaka.

Toyo Eiwa University
PROFILE: Toyo Eiwa University is an accredited four-year institution of higher learning for women. It was established in April of 1989, and a co-educational graduate school was added in 1993. The university currently has an enrollment of nearly 2,700, with approximately 70 percent of the students drawn from the greater Tokyo/Yokohama area. The university welcomes foreign students from other nations in Asia. It is hoped that the opportunity to study with their peers from neighboring countries will benefit all of our students intellectually and culturally.
LOCALE: Though its wooded campus, located within an hour's travel time from the heart of Tokyo, is of recent date, the university forms part of an old and respected academic presence in Japan.
DIVISIONS: The Department of Human Sciences comprises four fields of inquiry: psychology, sociology, education, and religious studies. Department of Human Welfare : understanding human beings, health policies, special human categories, and social welfare services. The Department of Social Sciences is also composed of four fields: economics, political science, international relations, and area studies. ACADEMIC NOTES: As an educational institution, Toyo Eiwa University is open to the community and society. It prides itself on extending academic opportunities not just to young women coming directly from high school, but also to women who wish to enter or return to university at a later time. It offers admission to women who have graduated from the secondary school system, a junior college, or some other post-secondary institution and have then worked in society, as well as to students transferring from other colleges and universities.

Yokohama National University
PROFILE: As an institution located in the international city of Yokohama, Yokohama National University has been actively incorporating international students at a considerably high ratio of the student population since shortly after World War Two. Founded in 1992, the International Student Center carries on the University's tradition of internationalizing education by supporting students studying and doing research in what is to them a foreign land. On the basis of these educational and counseling activities, the International Student Center is aiming to become both a site of intercultural exchange between Japanese and foreign students and the center point of the movement towards internationalizing university education as a whole.
LOCALE : Yokohama is situated on a peninsula facing the western coast of Tokyo Bay and lies a mere 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from Tokyo; the capital of Japan. Yokohama enjoys a relatively mild climate. The YNU is located only 3 to 4 kilometers from both Yokohama and Shin-Yokohama stations; the University is blessed with an abundantly green campus of 450,000 square meters.
DIVISIONS : The University is currently composed of four faculties (Education and Human Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, and Engineering) and six graduate schools (Education, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, International and Business Law, and International Development Studies). There are approximately 9000 undergraduate and 1400 graduate students, with around 1000 faculty and staff engaged in education and research. The Junior Year Overseas at Yokohama National University (JOY) Program offers international students from affiliated universities the opportunity to take credit courses for up to a year in both an English-based curriculum centering on Japanese culture, society, language, and recent advances in science and engineering, education, and business, as well as in regular courses offered in Japanese by the university.
ACADEMIC NOTES: Yokohama National University features many facilities beyond the International Student Center, such as the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology; the Information Processing Center, which networks the University with other universities and research centers in Japan and abroad and furthers education in state-of-the-art data processing and calculation; and the University Library, housing over a million books, which has recently bolstered its audio-visual and software/computer facilities. In addition, the Health Services Center, the University Hall, and the Education and Culture Hall provide students and faculty with opportunities for health care, culture, research, educational and social exchanges, and entertainment.
ROOM AND BOARD : The university has two international dormitories: the Ooka International Student Dormitory and the Minesawa International Student Dormitory. JOY students may stay in single rooms, which are furnished with a bed, desk, bookshelf, and closet. Hirosaki University
PROFILE : Hirosaki National University was established in 1949 and consists of five faculties: Humanities, Education, Medicine, Science and Technology, and Agriculture and life Science, each with its own Graduate Division. As of Apr. 1 2001 , the university included 783 teaching staff, 791 supporting staff, 5520 undergraduate students, 495 graduate students and more than 110 international students from over 20 countries. A Cafeteria and restaurant, a bookstore, and meeting rooms are available in the University Center . There are over 35 sports clubs and 40 activity clubs on campus. There are several events scheduled specifically for foreign students, as well as the opportunity to participate in many local events and festivals.
LOCALE: Hirosaki is located in Aomori Prefecture , 480 miles northwest of Tokyo in the tsugaru area of Amori Prefecture , home of a continuing rich historical and cultural tradition. Hirosaki is famous for its spring cherry blossoms, its summer festivals and its status as Japan 's principal apple production area. Located under the massive Mount Iwaki and blessed with a four-season climate, the area provides not only ample opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities but also a chance to experience traditional Japan .

ACADEMIC NOTES: Students should have a minimum of 1 year of Japanese prior to start of program. Japanese language for international students is taught at five levels (8 credits each). Students can enter at any level and increase their proficiency in written and spoken Japanese. Japanese studies classes (4 credits) are taught by both Japanese and foreign teachers and involve lectures and discussions of various topics in Japanese history, folklore, current events and other subjects.
ROOM and BOARD: Hirosaki University has residence facilities for foreign students and researchers in its Foreign Exchange Hall. The Hall has 15 single rooms, five rooms for couples, and one family room available. Meals can be purchased a la carte or as part of a meal plan.
