The Office of Intercultural Relations/Cross Cultural Center now offers a Certificate in Cultural Competency to all undergraduate and graduate students of any major in order to prepare them once they enter the workforce to meet the demand for culturally proficient professionals.
The curriculum will lead students to become more knowledgeable about cultural issues, empowering them to be leaders who confront problems that serve as a barrier between world populations. The program’s workshop series will explore many facets of intercultural issues and will provide participants with practical experience to further improve their skills in working with others from diverse backgrounds. Participants will gain a more profound understanding of power and privilege, which will in turn promote a higher sense of consciousness toward social justice issues.
The goal of the program is to help students learn to communicate and interact with people that differ from themselves. Ultimately, the program will guide students toward developing the necessary skills to work in today’s diverse economy and world.
This program is free for all SDSU students.

“Gangsters” is set in late 1970s South Africa during the tumultuous times of racial suppression and rebellion. San Diego Black Ensemble’s Rhys Green directs this bold, in your face fight for the freedom to speak and change the unfair conditions of a society.
In the story, a poet is harassed by authorities for writing inflammatory verse and for reading it in public. In quick succession, she is interrogated, subjected to a banning order and killed in prison.
