A Weekend of Women in Hip Hop

May 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2008

Making history in San Diego, for one weekend, the Rubber Rose will host a three day event celebrating the ways women have contributed to and continue to transform the landscape of hip hop culture seeks to create a space where artists, spoken word poets, musicians, activists, and anyone into the flow of music can come together on the streets on San Diego.

The goal of this conference is to explore the ways hip-hop, as a music category and as an identity/culture, inform women and how women can and do inform the politics of Hip-Hop.

By simply existing as females in a space where culture is being formed the participants will transform their ideas, stereotypes, and actions within their own culture. Thereby increasing the engagement and support of women in music and performing arts. Over the next few years
these conferences will increase the number of women participating in the the arts on a conscious level in San Diego. Additionally, it will inspire discussions surrounding gender, race, and class across all lines.
