Preparing for Move-in

The best move-in resource for residents is the online Guide to Living in the Halls. The guide provides tons of information about your new living environment, from Internet services and voice mail instructions to getting to know the staff and valuable academic resources. You have a question, the guide probably has the answer. Familiarize yourself with what's available online so you can focus on bigger things - like what to pack.

What to Bring

Bring a bedspread, extra long twin sheets (except University Towers and Aztec Corner), pillowcases, towels, non-halogen desk lamp and bathroom items. Each residence hall room includes a microfridge at no additional cost (a mini fridge/freezer/microwave in one unit). In our traditional residence halls each resident is provided with a bed, desk, chair, dresser, blanket, mattress pad, pillow and waste basket. Many students bring their own pillow and extra blankets. Traditional residence hall rooms are not carpeted, so residents may bring or purchase a rug after arrival. Suite-style and apartments are carpeted. Most students also bring electronic equipment such as telephones, computers, TVs, DVD players, and stereos.

Rooms in the Cuicacalli Suites are furnished with a bed, desk (with attached bookshelves), chair, wardrobe and dresser. Each suite also has a living area that holds a three-seat couch, one-seat lounge chair, coffee table, end table, floor lamp, dining table and four chairs. The suite also has a mini-kitchenette with a full-size refrigerator, sink and microwave (additional appliances are not allowed). The bedrooms and the common living area of the suite are carpeted.

Money, Money, Money

A common question is how much money should I bring? You should arrive with enough money to purchase books and supplies for your classes (approximately $400-$500) and to buy meals until your meal plan begins on the first day of classes. If you are receiving financial aid, it is possible that all of your available financial aid funds will be used to cover the cost of your registration fees and housing. Know how much financial aid you are receiving, make a budget, and make sure you have enough funds to cover expenses throughout the semester.
