Move-out Charges

As per your Intent to Vacate, the University reserves the right to assess additional charges upon further inspection. If you plan to contest any damage charges assessed to you, we strongly suggest that all payments be made to Cashier's during the contesting period to avoid late fees.

Maintenance of Premises

The License Agreement for Living at SDSU outlines proper maintenance of property in the Terms and Conditions (item 8). "The Licensee shall maintain the room and furnishings in the condition noted on the Resident Room Condition Checklist. The cost of any damages to the room or furnishings, exclusive of ordinary wear and tear, will be billed. Licensee shall make no alteration to the housing facility without the prior written permission of University. Licensee agrees to be jointly responsible with other residents for the protection of the residence hall, its furnishings and equipment, through the hall councils and the Residence Hall Association. "

Contesting Charges

If you are contesting the charges assessed on your Intent to Vacate, the resident must:

1. Draft a letter, addressed to Office of Housing Administration. All correspondence must be written by the resident.

Please include the following information in the letter:
• Resident's full name
• SDSU Red ID number
• Residence hall and room number of resident
• E-mail address
• Current mailing address
• Current phone number where resident can be reached
• Explanation of why charges should be removed


2. Students have 60 days from billing due date to contest damage charges in writing.  You must provide reason, SDSU red ID, email address, phone number & mailing address.  Your letter must be hand-signed & dated.
           

Contesting letters may be received by fax to start process with original letter mailed to us.

3. The Office of Housing Administration will review your request as quickly as possible, usually within 4-6 weeks. You will receive a reply by e-mail or letter explaining the decision.

Express Check-out

All residents who choose to use the Express Check-out method waive their right to appeal or contest damage/cleaning charges assessed to their room.
