We have put together the following Web pages to help you learn about your new living environment, understand the responsibilities of being a community member and answer any questions that you might have. We want your stay here to be wonderful and will make ever effort to make your hall your home.
San Diego State University has its own telephone system. There are some
differences between SDSU’s system and your telephone at home.
On-campus dialing:
Dial the last five digits of the telephone number,
i.e., for 594-0000, dial “4-0000”
and for 783-0000, dial “3-0000”
Local calls:
Dial 8 + the 7-digit number.
Toll-free numbers:
Dial 8 + 1 + 800 + 7-digit number
or 8 + 1 + 888 + 7-digit
or 8 + 1 + 877 + 7-digit number
Campus Operator:
Dial “0” Hours: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Local information:
Dial 8 + 0 + 619-555-1212, then enter calling card number after the tone, or
wait for the operator.
Long distance information:
Dial 8 + 0 + area code + 555-1212, then enter calling card number after the tone,
or wait for the operator.
Local Prefixes:
On-campus and local calls may be made without charge. Any telephone number in
the 619 or 858 area code within 12 miles of SDSU will be a local call. Any prefixes
outside the 12 mile radius are considered toll calls.
Toll and Long Distance Calls
A toll call within the 619 area code:
Dial 8 + 0 + 7-digit number, then calling card number after the tone, or wait
for the operator.
A long distance call outside the 619 area code:
Dial 8 + 0 + area code + 7-digit number, then calling card number after the tone,
or wait for the operator.
An international call:
Dial 8 + 01 + country code + city code + telephone number, then calling card
number after the tone, or wait for the operator.
Dialing with an Authorization Code
Local information:
Dial *6* + auth. code + # + 411
Long distance information:
Dial *6* + auth. code + # + 8 + area code + 555-1212
Toll call within the 619 area code:
Dial *6* + auth. code + # + 8 + 7 digit number.
Long distance call outside the 619 area code:
Dial *6* + auth. code + # + 8 + area code + 7 digit number.
An international call:
Dial *6* + auth. code + # + 17 + country code + city code + number.
For calling cards with a special access number into that company’s system:
Dial 8 + local or toll free number, then follow the instructions on the back
of the card.
How to Set Up Voice Mail in the Residence Halls
STEP ONE
All Rooms - Dial 4-7444
STEP TWO
“Please enter your password”
Double Room - Enter 1, or 2, (your bed number) and the last 4 digits of your
phone number
Villa Alvarado - Enter 1, 2, 7, or 8 (your bed number) and the last 4 digits
of your phone number.
Single Room - Skip to step 4.
STEP THREE
“Enter your extension number”
Double Room - Enter 1, or 2, (your bed number).
Villa Alvarado - Enter 1, 2, 7, or 8 (your bed number).
STEP FOUR
“Please enter the temporary password the system administrator gave you”
Double Room - Enter 1 or 2 and the last four digits of your phone number.
Villa Alvarado - Enter 1, 2, 7, or 8, and the last four digits of your phone
number.
Single Room - Enter the last five digits of your phone number.
STEP FIVE
“Change your password to something personal”
All Rooms - Enter any number between 5 and 15 digits, then press #. You must
change your password.
STEP SIX
“Record your name”
All Rooms - Say your name, then press # to end.
STEP SEVEN
“Record a greeting”
All Rooms - Record a greeting, then press # to end.
