Congratulations!

Dear Community Member,

By choosing to become a member of the residence hall community, you have just opened the door to a world of new opportunities. You are a successful student! Now you have a unique opportunity to develop not only academically, but socially, culturally, interpersonally and ethically.

Your home is your residence hall and it should provide you with an environment in which you can be academically successful. Your staff is talented, well trained and committed to your success. You are also a member of the Residence Hall Association, a nationally recognized student organization which provides leadership opportunities, educational and social experiences, and invites you to participate in the self governance of your community.

A unique aspect of on-campus living is participating in activities and programs in your living community. Your Residential Education Staff and Hall Council will provide a diversity of social, educational, cultural and community service activities. Residence hall activities and programs provide you with valuable learning opportunities, while also developing a sense of community in your living area. We encourage you to take advantage of these events to learn more about yourself and your neighbors, to be exposed to new ideas, to enhance your academic performance, and to relax and have fun! Activities in the halls provide an informal environment for you to become acquainted with your neighbors, your hall staff, your Faculty-in-Residence, and other members of the campus community.

We encourage you to read this guide, and refer to it often. We hope that it will become a resource to you in engaging in all the opportunities provided, and in providing information to assist you in responsible and ethical decision making. Have a wonderful year!

Responsibility of Residents

Living in residence halls is an extension of the classroom learning experience. Residence halls provide a unique opportunity to put citizenship development into practice. Part of being a member of a community means being afforded certain rights, such as the right to express one's uniqueness and individuality in a group setting. At the same time, being a member of the residence hall community means demonstrating a willingness to abide by community standards. We promote open expression of individuality and diversity within the bounds of courtesy, sensitivity, and respect. The residence halls at SDSU have policies and regulations that govern group living. By signing the Student Housing License Agreement, you agreed to abide by these community standards. Please read through all of the Terms & Condtions and Policies & Regulations for 2007-08 prior to move-in.
