Student Government

The Residence Hall Association (RHA) would like to extend an opportunity of a lifetime to you! This organization has received the national “School of the Year” award three times! We are pleased that you have decided to join our community and we are certain your stay here will be both challenging and exciting. One’s experience is not complete without living on campus and RHA is here to help you make the most of it!

RHA is the governing body of on-campus residents who serve as representatives and programming members. Your RHA is the largest organization on campus with more than 4,200 students! We take pride in our tradition of leadership and invite you to join in.

Beyond pursuing academic excellence and meeting new friends, there are great opportunities available to get involved. Getting involved means gaining professional experience that will aid you in your career endeavors and personal growth. RHA provides opportunities to ensure that students are exposed to all that the university has to offer. We offer a number of leadership positions in many different areas and levels.

Educational, social and cultural programs are provided for all of our students to attend and present. Individual halls have Hall Councils that put on programs while our Program Board members present programs for all on-campus students. Programs these committees have organized include ice cream socials, alcohol awareness, movie nights, career fairs, boxer bingo, and religious fairs. As an incentive for residents to attend the programs, we offer Community Cash. Community Cash is mock money given to residents who come to support and participate in programs. At the end of each semester, there is a Community Cash Auction where residents purchase a variety of great merchandise with the money they have “earned.” We have auctioned CDs, DVD players, TVs, cookware, videotapes, and more!

At the end-of-the-year, five scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated commitment to pursuing academic excellence and extra-curricular involvement. These include:

• Michael B. Hoctor Award, of $1,000
• National Residence Hall Honorary Involvement Award of $500
• National Residence Hall Honorary Scholastic Award of $500
• Julie M. Dicks Memorial Scholarship of $500
• Samantha Graham Memorial Scholarship of $500

Employment Opportunities

Opportunities for part-time student employment exist throughout the year. You must be a current SDSU student taking at least 6 units. Hours and wages vary, and are set by the university using federal wage guidelines. If employed, you will need your social security card, your student validation (fee) card, and your student identification card to sign in at Student Payroll. Students are limited to 20 hours per week while classes are in session.
