Desk Assistants

DAs are the hall staff members responsible for monitoring the security of your hall, disseminating information and equipment, processing the mail and enforcing expectations related to safety procedures. Employee selection is conducted at each residence hall as openings occur.

Security Monitors

Security Monitors work in the residence halls providing security and safety checks for residents. If you are a night owl this position is for you! SMs work from approximately 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week throughout the academic year.

AMs serve as a resource, mentor, program planner and as community development agents for the residents of the LLC community. In addition, AMs take on responsibilities for the front desk operation or hall government roles. Selection of AMs is part of the Paraprofessional staff member (RA/AM/RHCA) selection process which starts at the beginning of spring semester.

Custodial and Maintenance Assistants

Custodial and maintenance assistants are hard working SDSU students. They have weekday or weekend assignments, in the morning and early afternoon. Applications are available at hall front desks and at OHA.

Resident Advisors

Caring, dependable and ambitious women and men are needed to work as RAs, leading the residential community. There are few positions that offer such opportunities for personal growth, challenges for developing effective leadership, and rewards of positively impacting the lives of your peers. It is our belief that our RAs are some of the finest individuals at San Diego State University, and we encourage you to consider joining their ranks.

Our primary Paraprofessional staff member selection process starts at the beginning of spring semester to hire staff for the following academic year. RA applications are accepted at the Residential Education Office all year long. There is a small selection process in mid-fall for potential spring semester vacancies. Look for publicity in the halls announcing specific deadlines as these times arrive.

Many students apply for Resident Advisor positions. You can start to prepare yourself now in many ways. You might want to work the hall desk, be active in your living area or Hall Council, or find out more by speaking with your current RA or Residence Hall Coordinator.
