FIR Tips for Students

Using the SDSU Library

by Linda Salem

Hi! It’s three in the morning and you need to ask a research question! What do you do? Never fear! Live Online Reference Help is here at SDSU 7 days a week, 24 hours a day!

O.K., it’s still three in the morning and you need a full-text article. What do you do? Search the library’s journal article databases and SDSU periodicals to find full-text articles on your subject.

The reserve book room in the library is open 24 hours a day and offers materials your instructors have on reserve for you, computers and printers for searching, email, and other work. Remember to use the campus escort for a safe ride there and back. Also, remember there isn’t access to the main circulating book collection here, but you can come back during the day to check out circulating books.

For books, search the library catalog. If you can’t find an electronic book (yes, we do have some of these), you can come in and check out books during regular library hours.

Need to talk to a librarian who specializes in your subject area? Look through the list of SDSU librarian subject specialists and their contact information. They may or may not be up at three in the morning but they will get back to you as soon as they can after they get your message.

More information about library services, go to the library Web site or call the library’s main number, 594-6724.
