Counseling & Psychological Services Internship Information Pre-Doctoral / Masters / Social Work Practicum and Internship in University Counseling / Clinical Psychology San Diego State University Training Program Counseling & Psychological Services at San Diego State University has, for 38 years, served as a training site for graduate students who have completed or are working toward doctoral degrees in clinical and/or counseling psychology or are working toward master's degrees in social work. Licensed professionals from a variety of mental health disciplines provide experientially based clinical training, using one-way mirror, video, DVD and audio tape and individual and group supervision. Training and supervised experiences are provided for individual and group therapy, psychoeducational workshops, clinical assessment, community-based interventions, trauma debriefing, and relationship counseling. Interns are also given an opportunity to mentor a " peer educator." The internship is organized around short-term therapy, systemic community-based interventions, and cross-cultural counseling. As an Intern Training Program, we are a member of the California Psychological Internship Counsel (CAPIC) and adhere to their guidelines for applications and selection procedures. Qualifications Candidates for the C&PS pre-doctoral internships must be fully enrolled in a doctoral program and have completed a supervised internship and Practicum. Ph.D. and Psy-D students who will be in their 4th or 5th years are encouraged to apply. Candidates for C&PS’ Social Work Traineeships must be fully enrolled in a Social Work program and be eligible to enroll in Course #750 Advanced Social Work Field Placement.
