The following elements should be included on any campus Web site main page. Some elements are necessary only for university and/or academic departments.
Any Campus Web Site
Title tag and page title (header). If this information is not included, the campus search engine will not be able to index your page properly.
"Last updated:(date)" (if the information is of a time-sensitive nature). Also recommended: "next scheduled update:"
Identification of affiliation with SDSU (such as the SDSU logo or the words "San Diego State University").
Link to the SDSU home page (and other appropriate university Web sites). The SDSU logo should always link to the SDSU home page.
Contact information or a link to a feedback form. A form is preferred over an e-mail link because if a person is not on his or her own computer (in a kiosk situation, for instance), an e-mail program may not be configured. A form will work regardless of how the e-mail software is configured.
If you choose to use a "mailto" link instead of a feedback form, make sure that you show the e-mail address so that people can write it down or print it and use it later.
Example: "Comments may be sent to Laura Hudson (lhudson@mail.sdsu.edu)."
Site map or site index.
Departmental, Office or Program Site
A link to the campus map listing for the building location.
A link to a directory of staff homepages or e-mail addresses and office telephone numbers should be clearly visible on the front page of the site.
Official university disclaimer: "The statements found on this page/site are for informational purposes only. While every effort is made to ensure that this information is up to date and accurate, official information can be found in the university publications."
