Greek Life Chapters Recognized for Excellence

During halftime of the San Diego State Homecoming game, SDSU’s office of Student Life & Leadership recognized several Greek chapters for their excellence. These awards were given to the top three chapters in each Greek council that excelled in a number of areas throughout the 2008-2009 academic year. To be eligible for these awards, the chapters had to show excellence in scholarship, philanthropy, campus involvement, alumni programming, member education, Greek involvement, and community service.

• Delta Zeta received the Panhellenic Council Dean’s trophy for first place. Pi Beta Phi received second place and Gamma Phi Beta received third place.
• Sigma Phi Epsilon received the Interfraternity Council Dean’s trophy for first place. Phi Kappa Theta received second place and Alpha Epsilon Pi received third place.
• Alpha Pi Sigma received the Carlson Cup for first place from the United Fraternity and Sorority Council. Sigma Theta Psi received second place and Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. received third place.
• The National Pan-hellenic Council for historically African-American Greek organizations awarded the Heilos Cup to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for first place. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., received second place and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. received third place.

Student Life & Leadership also recognizes chapters that that exceed 80 percent of possible Standards of Excellence points with the Silver Laurel Award and chapters that exceed 90 percent of possible Standards of Excellence points with the Gold Laurel Award.

For the 2008-2009 academic school year, the chapters that received the Silver Laurel Award were Delta Zeta, Pi Beta Phi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Phi Kappa Theta, Gamma Zeta Alpha, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., Upsilon Kappa Delta, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

The chapters that received the Gold Laurel Award were Alpha Pi Sigma, Sigma Theta Psi, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority , Inc.
