Issues facing students

We want to know:

HE said vs. SHE said. Was it rape?

As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month -- Read the following scenario and decide if it constitutes rape.

  • HE said: “She was flirting with me all night, and the way the girl was dressed ….”
  • SHE said: “He’s in my bio lab, and I’ve had a crush on him for a while.”
  • HE said: “We started drinking before the party, pre-party you know?”
  • SHE said: “I wanted to loosen up, so I did a few shots with my friends before we left our place for the party.”
  • HE said: “She approached me.”
  • SHE said: “I saw him and we started talking. We had a few drinks -- can’t remember how many --and talked for what seemed like an hour.”
  • HE said: “She started kissing me, so I thought she was really into me.”
  • SHE said: “I was super drunk, and was having trouble standing up. I needed to lie down.”
  • HE said: “She wanted to lie down, so we went back to my room.”
  • SHE said: “I felt so sleepy, kinda numb.”

  • HE said: “The girl was in my bed, dude. Everyone at the party saw us making out – they knew we were into each other. Her friends even saw us leave together.”
  • SHE said: “It’s like snapshots, or something. I must’ve blacked out, but I remember snapshots of him on top of me. I didn’t want to have sex. I liked him, but I didn’t want to have sex.”
  • HE said: “Violated? Are you kidding me? Seriously, she was in my bed! It’s not like we’re strangers or something. We were hanging out all night … I know she wanted it too.”
  • SHE said: “I didn’t fight. I didn’t say “NO!” But then again, I never said ‘YES.’ I was so out of it that I couldn’t say or do anything. I should’ve said or done something, but I just couldn’t.”
  • HE said: “Are you calling me a rapist?”
  • SHE said: “You mean to say it was my fault?”
