The Aztec Aquaplex Opens!

Since construction for the new Aztec Aquaplex began in November 2005, a small hole in the ground has evolved into a massive, state-of-the-art aquatics facility.

The Aztec Aquaplex opens this month. Check the Aztec Aquaplex Web site aztecaquaplex.sdsu.edu for the latest updates on the facility’s opening date, and more information.

The facility features three heated pools: a 50-meter pool; a 7,300-square-foot recreation pool; and a 20-person hydrotherapy spa.

Aztec Aquaplex Facts

  • The 50-meter pool is ideal for lap swimming and diving. It features four springboards and a five-anchor bulkhead (used for lap swimming). The pool is the home venue for the Aztec swim and water polo teams.
  • Similar to the ocean’s shore, the 7,300-square-foot recreation pool has a zero-depth entry between the facility’s sun deck and the water’s edge. A portion of the pool will be reserved as an open lounge, where members and guests can relax on floating rafts while soaking up some sun. This pool will also host swim lessons and water fitness classes such as water volleyball.
  • The 20-person hydrotherapy spa will help ease achy muscles and melt away stress with its 20 hydrotherapy jets and 102-degree water. After a long day, members and guests can sit and relax in the spa, and watch the sun set over the nearby canyon … a great way to end the day.
  • Students with an Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) membership will see a $2 increase in their monthly membership fees for pool access. Students not belonging to the ARC will pay a $3 daily entry fee into the Aztec Aquaplex, or they may purchase a pool-only membership for $13 a month.
  • The Aztec Aquaplex location is adjacent to the SDSU Tennis Center, softball field and Tony Gwynn Baseball Stadium.
