Are you the “Best of the Best” at San Diego State University?
Quest for the Best applications are now available
Dr. James Kitchen, Vice President for Student Affairs, along with the Centers for Student Involvement, announces the 21st annual “Quest for the Best” Vice Presidential Student Service Awards. The awards seek to recognize students who have achieved the highest level of merit while balancing academia with community service. The awards are given each spring to up to 10 outstanding students who demonstrate campus leadership skills and who lend their time and talents to community service.
The awards recognize leaders of the university who exemplify the values of excellence and integrity in the following four areas:
- Academic excellence, including a minimum overall G.P.A. of 3.0.
- Student involvement and commitment, including student organizations, student government, college councils, and Greek affiliation, etc.
- Community service outside the SDSU campus, such as volunteer work with medical, social service, theatrical, artistic, cultural, political, philanthropic entities, etc.
- Leadership qualities and development, including the degree of involvement and initiative within activities, the furtherance of intercultural understanding, and evidence of the development of positive, ethical decision-making.
If you or anyone you know demonstrates the criteria above and are a regularly enrolled SDSU student who has completed at least one year at SDSU and 75 units of college course work, we encourage you to apply. This award is also an opportunity to nominate a faculty or staff member who has made a significant contribution to your personal growth.
To apply, complete a “Quest for the Best” application, available at www.sdsu.edu/quest.
Completed applications must be submitted to the Centers for Student Involvement, Student Services West, room 1661. The deadline for submission is Monday, Feb. 26, at 4 pm. A selection committee made up of faculty, staff, and past Quest winners will examine completed applications and then interview the chosen finalists.
You are encouraged to share this information with members of your student organization.
The “Quest for the Best” awards will be presented at a gala banquet. The ceremony will be attended by winning students, two special guests of each winner, and faculty/staff honorees.
An information session will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1 from 3-4 pm in the Backdoor in Aztec Center. If you have any questions regarding the “Quest for the Best” award, please contact Robyn Rubenstein, coordinator for Student Organizations and Activities, at rrubenst@mail.sdsu.edu.
