The Aztec Aquaplex will provide SDSU students with a new state-of-the-art pool facility to serve the recreational, educational and athletic needs of the SDSU campus. The 50-meter pool will also be the home venue for the Aztec swimming, diving and waterpolo competitions.

The complex will include three heated pools; the Olympic 50-meter pool for lap swimming and diving; a 7,200 square foot recreation pool with a zero-edge gutter and beach entry for recreational swimming and water volleyball/basketball; and a 20-person hydrotherapy spa for students looking to soak and relax.

“This new pool complex will accommodate all levels of users from the novice to the experienced swimmer, says Eric Huth, Campus Recreation Director for the Associated Students. “Special care will be taken to encourage and ensure that all SDSU students are afforded the opportunity to conveniently and affordably use the facility. It will be a gathering place for SDSU students, enriching their social life and enhancing the sense of community and wellness that is a major part of student life at SDSU.”

“The pool will also include lounge chairs, tables, umbrellas, and areas where students can enjoy the sun, study, relax, socialize or surf the net via a free Wi-Fi Internet connection to their lap top computer,” said Huth.

Designed to evoke images of ancient Mayan pyramids, the building’s progressive architecture includes an 8,000 square foot photovoltaic panel that acts as a shade structure for participants and will help offset energy costs.

Student members of the Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) will receive entrance privileges into the new pool facility for an additional $2 per month. Non-ARC members will pay a small daily entry fee or purchase a pool-only membership to enter the facility. The entrance to the pool facility will also allow students to gain access into the new SDSU tennis courts for recreation play when the courts are not being used to teach ENS classes or by the Aztec tennis teams.
