Aztec Aquaplex Currently Under Construction To Open in Early Spring
On April 14 & 15, 2004, San Diego State students voted in favor of an $8 million aquatics complex. Aztec Aquaplex construction is progressing quickly on the west side of campus next to the Tony Gwynn Stadium, with planned completion in the spring 2007 semester.
The facility will be incredible with three large pools: an Olympic-size swimming and diving pool, a 7,200-square-foot heated recreation pool with a walk-in entry and a 20-person hydrotherapy spa with water temperatures ranging from 101 104 degrees. The outdoor facility will be open daily for drop-in recreation and fitness usage for SDSU students, faculty, staff and the San Diego community.
Programming will include swim lessons, water aerobics and intramural sports. There will be 100 lounge chairs to give students a place to relax, socialize or study. Aztec Recreation Center members will have full access, and there will be pool-only memberships and one-day passes available.
