SDSU Students Encouraged to Submit Papers to The Creative Community JournalEnvision San Diego, a partnership between KPBS, SignOnSanDiego.com and SDSU’s International Center for Communications, announced a new call-for-papers for a the online publication, The Creative Community Journal. The Journal features the scholarly work, research and critical thinking of SDSU and UCSD undergraduate and graduate students. Envision San Diego is a pioneering forum for civic engagement and journalism designed to enhance citizen awareness of and commitment to solving the major public policy issues affecting the development of the region. The Journal is a companion initiative that encourages students to submit scholarly papers that address the issues of greatest concern to San Diego and, more importantly, the bold, new ideas to move the region forward. “As this is the second call-for-papers for the Journal, we are looking forward to reviewing new and unique ideas and solutions to the San Diego region’s most pressing public policy issues,” said Andy Pendoley, Editor of the Journal. “We are excited to involve more young adults and, hopefully, inspire new leaders.” “Envision San Diego already has an excellent cadre of experienced community leaders from all sectors of the region who are lending their expertise to the discussion of reform on key issues such as governance in the new economy, health communities, and the scourge of sprawl,” said John M. Eger, Executive Director of SDSU’s International Center for Communications and Van Deerlin Chair of Communication and Public Policy. “But it’s the new infusion of creative and intellectual contributions of undergraduate and graduate students that will enrich this process and push our thinking to new areas.” Authors of selected papers will receive $100.00 mini-grants thanks to the generous support of the program by Maury and Charmaine Kaplan. “We believe that students of all academic backgrounds have something meaningful to contribute to the Envision San Diego initiative and the Journal,” said Pendoley. “In fact, if a student feels that a particular issue or idea is missing, then we want to hear about it in the form of a well-researched and well-written paper.” Students may submit papers that were previously submitted to their instructors as part of their coursework, as long as they follow the Journal’s submission guidelines. The deadline for submission is December 16, 2005. Detailed information about submission guidelines, are available at www.envisionsandiego.org , by following “The Creative Community Journal” link.
