Jobs On Campus Come PreparedEach semester hundreds of students apply for jobs through Aztec Shops, to work at the campus bookstore, or any one of the several eateries and convenience stores on campus. Unfortunately, not all students come prepared with the necessary documents needed to process their application, which can cost them a potential job. Since Aztec Shops often interviews and hires students on the spot, Colleen Bucci, programs administrator for Aztec Dining Services, advises students to come prepared with their SDSU Red ID Card, driver’s license (or valid California ID), and Social Security Card, when they fill out an application. If students do not have their Social Security Card they can also show a valid U.S. passport or their original birth certificate. According to Bucci, even if a student is hired, if they don’t have all of their documents, their job may go to another qualified student. “If their information is being mailed to them, it can take a few days or sometimes longer. In the meantime, the manager who has hired them may need employees right away and they will hire someone else to fill that position. This means that by the time a student returns with the correct paperwork the position may already be filled,” said Bucci. “Working for Aztec Shops comes with many benefits,” said Bucci. “Great location, right on campus, flexible hours we schedule around class schedules discounts at the SDSU Bookstore, free break drinks and no FICA tax is taken out of their paycheck. If you work for Dining Services, you will also receive a $5 meal allowance each day you work.” Generally, the bulk of hiring for Aztec Shops is two weeks before the semester begins and at least two weeks into the semester. The SDSU Bookstore also hires at the end of each semester for both the Buy Back rush and for the following semester. However, applications are accepted and encouraged at anytime.
