The Tunnel of Oppression Breaking Down StereotypesWednesday, November 7 through Thursday, November 9
The Tunnel of Oppression is created and performed by SDSU students and staff. It is a diversity awareness project designed to fight ignorance and oppression through education The participants physically move through a series of sensory experiences pertaining to different kinds of oppression. After traveling through the tunnel in silence, a group discussion is held to consider the impact of this exercise and how it relates to our community. Originally designed by students at Western Illinois University, The Tunnel of Oppression was recognized with an award from the National Association of College and University Residence Halls in 1995. Since that time, colleges across the nation have brought this program to their campuses and adapted it to reflect the issues in their own communities. This is the seventh year that the Tunnel of Oppression is being presented here at SDSU. It is our hope that students, faculty and staff will go through the Tunnel and leave with a renewed sense of hope to make change happen The Tunnel of Oppression will take place Monday, November 7 through Wednesday, November 9 in the Tula Community Center next to Tenochca on the east side of campus. The Tunnel will be open from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm each day, with a new tour beginning approximately every 30 minutes. The Tunnel is free for all campus community members who would like to attend.
