National Parks America Tour Event

Participate in a volunteer-driven initiative designed to engage people of all ages in the National Parks experience and in volunteer service in public lands.

Volunteer in tide pool and beach clean-ups as well as the removal of non-native plants. 


American Cancer Society

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

The American Cancer Society raises money for cancer research and patient services and works to increase awareness of cancer. 

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a non-competitive walk that specifically raises money for breast cancer.  Individuals or student groups can help volunteer during the event.  Student groups can also form teams, fundraise, and participate in the walk.


Y-Friendz

Y-Friendz is looking for community members over the age of 18 to be partnered with a youth whose parent is incarcerated.  They want to give these youth a caring adult mentor who will offer them a positive alternative in their lives and the support they need to succeed.  This program requires of mentors a nine-month commitment of one-three hours per week.  Volunteers can also assist with special events and program needs.


Mann Middle School

Mann Middle School is composed of three schools: The School of Expedition (focusing on social action), The School of Exploration (focused on science and technology), and the School of Expression (focused on visual and performing arts).

These schools need student volunteers to help in the classroom and on special projects.  There are various opportunities such as mentoring, tutoring, helping with art projects and music or drama activities, and leading and participating in sports activities.


Rosa Parks Elementary School

A local elementary school, Rosa Parks Elementary, is looking to have SDSU students volunteer with children in grades 3-5.

There are many opportunities for students to help:

  • as a classroom mentor:  assisting with literacy and tutoring in math
  • the Best Man Program:  serving as a positive role model for male students (Wednesdays 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.)
  • the Best Friend Program:  serving as a positive role model for female students (Wednesdays 11 a.m. –12 p.m.)
  • the Homework Club:  (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays 2:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.)

Students need to commit to volunteering for a least a semester in one or more of these programs.


St. Vincent de Paul’s Village

St. Vincent de Paul provides and home and resource to a community of people looking to better their lives. 

There are numerous opportunities to volunteer including working in the kitchen, participating in special Thanksgiving and Christmas events, and assisting in the departments of residential life, children’s services, and career/education.
