Trolley Time at SDSUStarting July 10, San Diego State students will have a new, affordable alternative to get to and from the university as the San Diego Trolley begins service along the Mission Valley East extension. The extension, which took five years and $506 million to build, includes new stops at Grantville, Alvarado Hospital Medical Center and 70th Street as well as the SDSU station. It’s part of the Trolley’s new Green Line, which stretches from Santee to Mission Valley and also features connections to downtown and as far as the international border at San Ysidro. Currently enrolled students can buy semester transit passes for $119, monthly passes for $45, or various daily, round-trip or one-way fares. Transit passes can be purchased at the Aztec Center ticket office. More trolley information including maps, schedules and a full list of fares is available at www.sdcommute.com. The Metropolitan Transit System, which operates the Trolley, projects that 4,300 students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus will use the SDSU station each day, and even higher numbers on days with campus special events. To make accessing the trolley easier at SDSU, a new transit loop, opened in January, enables buses to pick-up and drop-off passengers directly above the underground station. First envisioned by MTS more than 25 years ago, the project is funded with state, federal and TransNet dollars, including the local half-cent sales tax. No SDSU funds were used for construction.
