Greeks Raise $20,000 for CharityLast month, the fraternity and sorority members at San Diego State University sponsored Greek Week. Greek Week celebrates all the fraternities and sororities with a variety of activities, and it serves as a unique fundraising opportunity to benefit charity. This year, the fraternities and sororities raised more than $20,000 for Camp Able at Coronado. Professor Gene Lamke and the faculty of the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism developed Camp Able at Coronado in 1980 to provide disabled children challenging, recreational, and educational activities. The camp has served more than 8,500 children from 25 agencies with a day camp and waterfront activities at Silver Strand State Beach. Greek Week incorporates all the Greek councils at SDSU. Together, students from 47 organizations were able to contribute to the San Diego community through many hours of service, philanthropy and fundraising. This year, Greek students participated in hands-on service at Camp Able in addition to raising funds. Other events of Greek Week included a Talent Show, a Kids Carnival, and Greek Games. The culminating event of Greek Week was Unity Night, a celebration featuring awards and goodwill. This year’s Greek Award winners are:
