Associated Student’s Mission Bay Aquatic Center co-hosts San Diego Beach and Boat Fair with the San Diego Lifeguard Service.

As summer approaches, many of us will be heading to the beaches and bays of California to enjoy the beautiful waters our state has to offer. The Mission Bay Aquatic Center would like you to remember that wearing a life jacket while boating can mean the difference between life and death in an on-the-water accident.

Last year there were 710 fatalities on California waterways. Of those fatalities, 576 were not wearing life jackets. That’s 8 out of every 10 victims! In an effort to combat these staggering statistics, the Mission Bay Aquatic Center, and the San Diego Lifeguard Service are hosting the San Diego Beach and Boat Fair, May 22 at Ski Beach, Mission Bay (east off Ingraham St on Vacation Island) from 10am-4pm.

The fair will host many local safety agencies and local area boat dealers to help you gear up with the latest info and supplies to keep you safe on the water. The US Coast Guard Auxiliary will also be on hand conducting free vessel safety inspections. Additionally, several vendors will be displaying everything you need for fun on the water from wakeboards to fishing rods. The event will be highlighted by a helicopter water rescue demonstration, conducted by the San Diego Fire Rescue Service.
