Students Can Now Register for Testing Online

One more step in automating services for students was achieved when the SDSU Test Office, now called Student Testing, Assessment and Research (STAAR), began online test registration.

Previously, students who needed to take a myriad of tests, ranging from the EPT and ELM for prospective students, to the Writing Proficiency Assessment (WPA), had to physically come to the test office to register, often waiting in long lines. No more!

Now students can register for their required tests from the comfort of their home or residence hall room using the new Test Office Web Registration system, also known as TOWER.

"Students can still come to our office in person and register for their exams,” said Rey Monzon, director of STAAR. “Our goal with online test registration was to offer another option for students.”

Monzon pointed out that even if students come to the STAAR office, they can still register online via four computer kiosks outside the office.

Approximately 200 students pilot tested the new system prior to implementation in October.  Between 80 and 90 percent of the students in the pilot study found TOWER to be easy to use, quick, and were likely to use it again.  In addition, more than 80 percent of the students felt TOWER was important and were satisfied with the system.

The STAAR office provides testing services for the purpose of admission, class placement, competency for graduation, licenses, and credentials.

TOWER can be accessed through the STAAR website at: www.sdsu.edu/testoffice
