SDSU Scholarship Process

American Association of University Women: La Mesa/El Cajon Branch Scholarship

Multiple $1,000 awards / Candidates must —

• Be a female enrolled full time as a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
• Have a cumulative overall 3.0 GPA.
• Demonstrate leadership principles for women and girls which epitomize the mission of AAUW.

American Association of University Women: San Diego Branch Scholarship

Scholarships in the $750—$1,500 range open to students who—

• Are full time (12 units or more per semester).
• Have earned at least 60 semester units towards a baccalaureate degree in any area of study.
• Earned a GPA of 3.4 or higher.
• Is pursuing a baccalaureate degree or credential, but not a graduate degree.

American Indian Education Foundation Scholarships

Applicants must be—

• Native American or Alaska Native descent.
• Attending or intend to attend full time as an undergraduate.

American Society of Naval Engineers Scholarship

Applicants must be—

• Senior or first year graduate student leading to an engineering or physical science degree.
• U.S. citizen.

Army Emergency Relief Scholarship Programs

Scholarships offered in three categories—

• Dependent children of Army Soldier active duty, retired, or deceased.
• Overseas spouse living with active duty Army Soldier.
• Stateside spouse of Army Soldier active duty, retired, or deceased.

Asian Business Association Foundation, Tom Fat Scholarship

Several scholarships offered to undergraduate students who —

• Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents living in San Diego County.
• Have a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Association of Environmental Professionals: Student Scholarship

Scholarships of up to $2,000 and a one-year student membership to the AEP are available to undergraduate or graduate students who —

• Are actively engaged in the pursuit of a career in a field with an environmental emphasis.
• Have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Barona Sustainable Environment Scholarship Program

As part of the Barona Valley Environmental Sustainability Program, this scholarship is available to students with a passion for the environment who are pursuing careers in—

• Environmental sciences industries.
• Natural resources.
• Horticulture or turf grass management.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

Scholarships up to $1,500 for awardees who are—

• U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen and a legal resident of California.
• Graduates of a California State Department of Education recognized high school.
• Enrolled full time in a U.S. post secondary institution.
• Registered with Selective Service unless not required.

CALFED California Sea Grant College Program

Up to 12 fellowships available in Estuarine Science for Pre-and Postdoctoral research.

• June application deadline for fellowships that begin September.
• Postdoctoral fellows $45,000 stipend per year plus eligible expenses up to $30,000 per year.
• Graduate fellows stipend $25,000 per year plus expenses up to $19,500.

Research Topics:

• Trends/patterns of habitats, populations, and system response to a changing environment.
• Aquatic invasive (Exotic) species.
• Water supply, water quality.
• Developing indicators and performance measures.

California Chicano News Media Association

Scholarships awarded annually to qualified Latino students pursuing a career in journalism who are—

• Undergraduate students enrolled full time.
• California residents or attending an accredited California college or university.

California Council of the Blind

Scholarships available to legally blind students—

• Undergraduate or graduate.
• California residents.

California Retired Teachers Association (CRTA) East County Division 69 Scholarships

Three scholarships of $1,500 available to students—

• With a bachelor's degree.
• Enrolled in teacher-training program.
• Are residents of San Diego County.

California Retired Teachers Association (CRTA) North Shores Division 78 Scholarships

Applicants for the $1,500 scholarship must—

• Be a legal resident of San Diego County.
• Have earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Be a junior, senior or first year graduate student.
• Enrolled in or intending to enroll in study leading to a Teaching Credential.

California Strawberry Scholarships

• For children of strawberry farmworkers.
• Full-time enrollment required.

Capture the Dream

Scholarships of $1,000 available to full-time, undergraduate, California residents in two categories—

• Single Parent Scholarship.
• Minorities in Leadership Scholarship.

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation

Several different scholarships are available through this foundation.

Executive Women International (EWI) of San Diego

Scholarship opportunities for Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST) are available to nontraditional adult students with clearly defined career goals and objectives.

Future Educators Scholarship Program

Scholarships of $2,000 - $2,500 for students who—

• Commit to teach in the SDUSD for at least 3 years.
• Graduate from an SDUSD school in the spring.
• Will attend a San Diego County 4-year university/college.
• Is a U.S. citizen or have permanent residency status.
• Demonstrate financial need.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

Multiple minority race scholarships to students who—

• Are U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
• Are African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander, Hispanic American.
• Earned a cumulative 3.3 GPA.
• Are full-time, degree-seeking students for the first time.
• Have demonstrated leadership through participation in community service or other activities.
• Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.

GEICO Achievement Award Program

Multiple $1,000 awards to undergraduate students who—

• Are sophomores or juniors attending full time.
• Earned a 3.00 overall undergraduate GPA.
• Are majoring in business, computer science, mathematics or a related program.
• Have demonstrated leadership within the campus or community.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

Scholarships of up to $5,000 awarded to students traditionally underrepresented in study abroad programs and who may not traditionally apply due to financial constraints. Applicant requirements—

• Student is applying for or accepted into a study abroad program for at least 4 weeks in one country.
• Programs going to more than one country are eligible if the student will be studying in one country for at least 28 consecutive days.
• Studying abroad in any country except Cuba or a country on the U.S. Department of State's current Travel Warning list.  
• Receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of his/her study abroad.
• Be an undergraduate student in good academic standing.
• A pilot summer award cycle is available for 2010.

Graduate Equity Fellowship

A California grant program administered by the SDSU Graduate Division to help graduate students needing financial support, especially for groups underrepresented in their respective disciplines. Applicants must—

• Be a legal California resident.
• Be admitted to a master's program at SDSU (not for second doctorate or master's degrees).
• Be enrolled in at least 6 units (fall and spring) applicable to your degree program.
• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before application deadline (See How to Apply at the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships Web site).
• Have at least $1,000 in financial need.
• Demonstrated potential to succeed and complete your master's program based on undergraduate work and letters of recommendation.

Health Professions Education Foundation

Multiple scholarships and loan repayment programs for healthcare students and workers who provide direct patient care in a medically underserved area of California for one to two years.

Hispanic College Fund (HCF) Scholars Program

Multiple scholarship programs. HCF will select scholarships that best match student's qualifications from one application.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Multiple scholarships available. Minimum requirements include—

• U. S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
• Enrolled full time and pursuing a degree.
• High school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student.
• Pursing first undergraduate or graduate degree.

International Code Council (ICC) - San Diego Chapter Scholarship

Scholarships of $500 are available to students pursuing an education in building construction or inspection technology.

The International Code Council is dedicated to helping the building safety community and construction industry provide “safe, sustainable and affordable construction through the development of codes and standards used in the design, building and compliance process.”

The San Diego Chapter of the ICC promotes uniform and consistent application of the building codes, public health and safety through education, training and the code development process, and awareness of the role of the regional building and safety departments.

Iranian-American Scholarship Fund

Candidates' requirements include—

• Verifiable Iranian heritage.
• U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Enrolled full time in a degree program as sophomore through senior or graduate student (not PhD).
• Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
• Must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship (See How to Apply at the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships Web site).
• Demonstrated commitment to community service.

Junior League of San Diego Textbook Scholarship

For transitional-age foster youth attending school in San Diego County.

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation - Our Heroes Tribute Scholarships

One year, renewable scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

• For children of Marines or Navy Corpsmen serving with Marines whose parent was killed in the War on Terror.
• For grandchildren of Marines whose grandparent must be a member of specific associations.

• Eligible family maximum adjusted gross income of $77,000 (adjusted if more siblings apply,
• Be a continuing undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior.
• Have earned a GPA at least 2.0.

Military Education Scholarships

• Current or prospective ROTC program students.
• Active-duty military with plans to attend college.
• Honorably discharged Veterans of the U.S. military.
• Children of Veterans or Active-duty military.

Music Scholarship Council of the Grossmont Community Concert Association

Multiple instrumental and vocal scholarships are available. An audition is required.

National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences-Pacific Southwest Chapter (NATAS-PSW)

• Must be enrolled in at least 3 courses.
• Must be a resident of the NATAS-PSW chapter area (San Diego, Las Vegas, Bakersfield, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, or San Luis Obispo).
• Intends to pursue a career in telecommunications or related fields.
• Has demonstrated creative achievement.

For applicants of the NATAS-PSW David Garcia Broadcast Journalism Scholarship, students—

• Must be a journalism major leading to a career in broadcasting.
• Must be a Coachella Valley resident.

National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL)

NHCSL STEM Target Majors Scholarship.

• Sophomore or higher class level.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Specific majors are indicated on their Web site.

National Latino Peace Officers Association (NLPOA)

Scholarships of $1,000 awarded.

• Demonstrated commitment to community service.
• Open to all students regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity who exemplify NLPOA's mission.
• Enrolled in or accepted in an undergraduate or graduate program (including social work, law and medicine).
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (High School) or 3.0 (College).

National Military Family Association (NMFA) - Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarship Program

Awarded to spouses of Uniformed Services members (active duty, National Guard and Reserve, retirees, and survivors).

National Science Foundation - SDSU STEM Scholars Program

Scholarships of $5,000 (for first year participants) and $6,000 (for second year participants) are available through the SDSU STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Scholars Program. Requirements include—

• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who meets the federal financial aid eligibility criteria.
• Science and engineering majors with a minimum 2.85 GPA.
• Must be enrolled or ready to enroll in junior or senior level courses specified for your major.

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution - American Indian Scholarship

• Must be Native American in financial need.
• Minimum 2.75 GPA.
• Open to undergraduate and graduate students.

National Student Nurses Association (Foundation of)

Application requirements include—

• Being admitted or enrolled in nursing program leading to a degree.
• Enrolled in at least 6 units.
• Involved in student nursing organizations and community health activities.
• U.S. citizen or permanent residency status. 

Naval Officers' Spouses' Club of San Diego

Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors in the greater San Diego area who are dependents of military personnel.

Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Tweeddale Scholarships

The purpose of the Tweeddale Scholarship is to encourage students who excel in the hard sciences to consider a career in the Navy. Two candidates may be awarded.

• Majors: Engineering, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics.
• Scholarships provide 100% tuition and fees.
• A monthly stipend (starting at $250 per month and increasing to $400 during the senior year).
• Must have completed 1, but not more than 4, semesters.
• GPA of 2.0 overall and 3.0 in calculus.
• U. S. Citizen.
• Meet medical and other screening criteria.

SA Funds-Access to Education Scholarships

Scholarships open to high school seniors, incoming college or professional degree students, and currently enrolled college or professional degree students who—

• Plan to enroll or are enrolled as full or half-time undergraduate, or full-time graduate/professional degree students.
• GED recipients also are eligible.
• Have an annual adjusted gross family income of $35,000 or less.
• Are U. S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.

Sell Used Books College Essay Contest Scholarship

• Legal U.S. residents, 18 years or older at the time of application.
• Award offered twice a year.

"Shout It Out" Scholarship

• Legal U.S. residents.
• Attending or will be attending an undergraduate or graduate degree program.

Soroptimist International of La Mesa Women's Opportunity Awards

Financial and recognition awards for women—

• Who are financially responsible for themselves and their dependents.
• Have financial need.

Southwest Airlines Education Travel Program

Awards roundtrip airline tickets to students who travel away from home to pursue a higher education.

Tillman Military Scholarships - Leadership Through Action

Supporting educational opportunities for service members and their families.

• Open to service members and their dependents from all branches of the U.S. Military.
• Any degree objective or class level.
• Have unmet financial need.

United States Public Health Traineeships

Merit-based scholarships of up to $10,000—
